Sunscreen isn’t always enough, especially for being out on the ocean, so when I found these it made a big difference in the methods I used to protect my skin. My SA Face Shield has saved my skin countless times on the beach, the lake, and while out just riding in the boat. Not only are they useful for protection against sunburn, but equally beneficial when there are high winds and dust.
The Time I had Sun Poisoning
I have extra sensitive skin so SA Face Shields have been a godsend to me. About a year ago, my man and I took a beach fishing trip together to Gulf Shores, AL. We stayed on the fishing pier literally all day – from about 7am until nightfall.
I reapplied sunscreen to my face several times throughout the day thinking it would prevent me from getting sunburn. I didn’t feel like I was getting burned at all that day, but when we finally left the pier and arrived at our hotel, I stepped into the bathroom and caught a glimpse of my face in the mirror. Yikes!
Apparently the 50 SPF sunscreen just wasn’t cutting it. It took a little while for my skin to really start hurting. By the time I woke up the next morning I felt horrible. My forehead was beginning to swell and I had these little water blister-like lesions surfacing on my face.
My face continued to swell for a few days, with the initial swelling in my forehead expanding down to the rest of my face. The bridge of my nose was wide and made it difficult to keep my glasses on at work. At the time I was working in a cabinet manufacturing plant, so safety glasses were required.
It took nearly an entire week and a half to look and feel normal again.
Discovering SA Face Shield
I enjoy fishing and because I tend to search fishing and beach gear online, so an ad appeared while I was scrolling through my Facebook feed. The ad was for an awesome sale on face shields. Buy 1 get 4 free? Heck yes, take my money!
With over 150 designs to choose from, I browsed around for a while and finally placed my order.
It didn’t take long for the package to arrive and I was very pleased with the products. They actually arrived just in time for our next beach trip, so I didn’t have time to try them out on the lake before heading to the ocean, but still I was excited to use them.
Again, we spent the majority of the day on the pier fishing. This time I believe it was the Pensacola pier we decided on.
I immediately could tell I was going to love these things. They were thin and breathable, so despite having it over my mouth and nose most of the day, I never got hot from wearing it.
About the Product and Company
SA Fishing is a company that prides itself on producing quality products while still having affordable prices by taking out the “middle man” and allowing you to purchase directly from their online store.
They have several products besides the face shields, and all are crafted with the outdoors in mind, so durability is definitely among their top priorities. Choose from hats, swim shorts, shirts, dog gear, and more! Moisture wicking fabric ensures you stay cool and dry while you are out in the sun, while UPF 30+ provides you with ultimate protection from the sun.
I use my shields mainly for the ocean and lake fishing, so this post is mainly about the fishing shields. Therefore, I should probably mention the company also offers fleece face shields that are great for snowboarding, skiing, and other cold or extreme weather activities.
All the products have a lifetime warranty and replacement is simple. Mail in or provide a photograph of the damaged item and let them take care of the rest. You are only responsible for shipping costs in case of return or exchanges.
What is UPF?
Most of us already know what SPF is, and if you don’t – SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, which is the standard rating for which a product protects from the sun. You typically will see SPF on sunscreen, lip balm, and occasionally women’s makeup.
UPF stands for Ultravoilet Protection Factor. This is also a standard rating for protection that is fairly new, and was created specifically for measuring the effectiveness of certain fabrics against the sun. UPF measures the amount of Ultraviolet radiation that penetrates a fabric and reaches the skin.
UPF also provides UVA and UVB protection, which most sunscreens do not unless specified on the bottle that they are broad spectrum SPF. Experts believe UVB rays are responsible for most of the damage done to our skin by sunlight, as they are mostly responsible for sunburn. UVA penetrates deeper into the skin and can cause premature aging and wrinkles.
The face shields do not only protect against the sun, but also protect against wind, dirt, and if you prefer colder climates it will keep you protected from the cold.
My Honest Opinion
So, I have been using these face shields for a year now and I have no complaints. I haven’t had sunburn or windburn again since beginning to use these.
The shipping took a little longer than I was expecting, but they still arrived in a timely manner. . I was given an estimated 2-5 day delivery and I received them on day 5.
One of my favorite things about this company is that they are constantly running sales. Let’s be honest with ourselves – if we were to go out and buy a similar product from a sports store, we would spend double if not more the price this company charges.
If you love fishing and being outdoors like I do, you will love these. Take advantage of the huge sales they have and give it a try.
I would love to hear your input and experience with SA, so feel free to leave a comment below or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I hope you enjoyed this article and found it useful and thank you for taking the time to read.
